Finnish company Calefa Oy has implemented energy recovery system in the largest dairy in the Baltic region „Rokiškio sūris“. The waste heat is collected from about 30 degrees C waste water from the cheese making process. The heat is recycled to 80 degrees with a heat pump and supplied to the plant’s district heating network. The heat pump produces several megawatts of thermal output.  As a result of this operation, the dairy’s annual energy consumption is much less and CO2 emissions are reduced by 1300 t per year. The solution replaces the use of district heating and reduces production costs. The technology developed and manufactured in Finland for reuse of industrial energy is the answer to environmental challenges in the world.
